What do I weigh now and what do I eat?

Wednesday, April 1, 2009

I've been doing soo well with only weighing myself once a week, I've decided it feels better doing it once a week, the whole once a day thing was driving me crazy! I have broken my stall and lost 3kgs in the last two weeks. I am now weighing 86.5kgs and I was originally 107.1kgs so all up I've lost 20.6kgs/45.5lbs!! I like to think of 45lbs of butter when I visulize how much I've lost, it's not exact I know but it keeps me motivated.

I'm so stoked and people are really noticing now, I finally feel like an overweight slimmer person as opposed to a truly obese person. I'm half way there which feels so fantastic I cannot tell you :) My goal is 60-65kgs so I have about 20kgs to go. Nothing tastes as good as slim feels and I'm not even slim yet.

I still don't feel like I'm dieting at all, I never feel like I miss out, the only time I have found it hard is smelling garlic bread sometimes but other than that I am so very satisfied with the foods I do get to eat. So what do I eat......here's a sample of what I eat in a day.

Breakfast - 3 free range poached eggs, 5 hazelnuts and a small pc 85% chocolate (I add the nuts and choc to just add a bit more fat) or I will have a Protein Shake with 1 scoop of unflavoured whey, 2 tsps cocoa powder, coconut milk, almond milk, dash cream. In the weekend it's 3 free range poached eggs and a few slices of free range streaky bacon YUM!! and on sundays it's scrambled eggs with cream added, dh makes the best scrambled egg.

Lunch - If I've had eggs for breakfast and I'm in a hurry I'll have the above protein shake or I will make a chicken salad with mayo or now I'm having my beloved 'low carb' sushi is becoming more frequent and I love it.

Snack - if needed which I don't usually, I last 5-6hours between my meals, If I don't add enough fat at my previous meal I only last 4 hours. If I'm having a late dinner or something a snack will be some pistachio nuts, cashews, hazelnuts or pecans or almond butter and maybe a bit of camembert.

Dinner - Pork chops or roast chicken, roast pumpkin (small amount), broccoli and zucchini with gravy - I use about 1/2 tsp guar gum to thicken the gravy and add some cream to make it richer. Or we will have a chicken wrap with bacon, camembert, relish, aioli and iceberg to hold it together - this is usually a friday night dinner. Or a nice piece of eye fillet steak with pepper sauce with a large salad with lots of everything and loads of avacado and homemade mayo.

Desert - only sometimes when I feel like it - Raspberries/blueberries with shredded coconut, slivered almonds, 85% chocolate and cream. Or a passionfruit, or just a couple of pcs of 85% chocolate.

Drinks - soda water, water and raspberry tea, I don't drink anything else, I hate artificial sweetners for hot drinks and coffee make's me more anxious.

So there you have it, doesn't really look like a diet to me. As you can see I don't eat a lot of fruit, I'm not a big fruit person anyway and it does slow my weight loss.

It does feel great to be down to my wedding weight which was two years ago now, the same weight I am in my profile pic :)

  1. WOOOOT!!! Well done on breaking the stall! Keep it up doll.

I'm still on the induction and feel great. I would love a nice meal of bacon and eggs but am a bit confused about it all. Is it OK to get honey-cured? Or do I have to avoid sugars altogether? Do I go by the carb count?

  2. Well done, your doing well. I too feel great on induction levels, if I raise my carbs too high I don't feel as good.

When it comes to bacon I get the Freedom Farms streaky or middle bacon. It has a little honey and sugar but not much, it's still only about .1gm or something. But the most important thing is nitrate free and I like that fact that it's free range. It's a bit more expensive but so worth it YUM!!!

  3. I've seen Freedom Farms in the supermarket, so will get that one - thanks for the advice. I agree, free range is definitely worth the $$.

  4. Hi - Caught your blog through Mark's Daily Apple. It's great to be able to support other kiwis. I'm doing low carb but it's a bit like what you're doing as I have dairy to keep up the fat content. Love my berries and 85% too, and have to limit them! We have a buzzing low carb/Paleo support thread going on Trade Me's messageboard (Recipes forum) if you and others are interested. I've saved your blog to ny favs so look forward to reading about your progress - and amazing recipes!

  5. Hi Jaxz, I agree it's nice to know that other kiwis are changing the way they eat. I searched on trademe and found Low carb / no carb people - part 2, hopefully that's what you are talking about, looks great I never knew trademe had this, thanks :-)

  6. Hi Shell - yes that's the one. There's also a lo carb recipe thread where I posted (with quotes!) your sushi recipe. Must try that over Easter. Pity there aren't any 85% easter eggs out there!

  7. Hey Dollface, what great progress you're making. So good to know that the low carb word is slowly spreading in NZ. I love the dreaded weigh in photographs! I still haven't got the guts to post any photos of myself on my blog (well, I do have the guts - that's the problem, if you get my meaning!)

  8. Jaxz - I just posted after the recipe on trademe forum, you will love it if your a fan of sushi. I wish there were 85% easter eggs too. I get the rapunzel 85% chocolate, it's more expensive than Lindt but soo much smoother.

Judith B - Hey thank you for your comment. It is great that there are some more NZ blogers about low carb. Oh yes my weigh in, it is hard to post photos of yourself when your unhappy with the way you look but because of how much I've lost I felt it was important to show the change...people are often motivated by other peoples photos. I think I may be due for another photo update soon maybe at my 50lb loss which is only 3lbs away!!
You might eventually get the 'guts' so to speak lol to post your photo but it is very hard so I completely understand :)

  9. Wow, 50lbs is a huge achievement. Go you! I am looking forward to seeing the pics when you put them up.

  10. Thanks Judith :) Not long now, I'll get dh to take an updated photo in the next couple of weeks, watch this space...
