How you know when you have it dialled in?

Wednesday, June 13, 2012

The best thing about finally finding something that works for you is you stop searching for answers.  For me Primal works and I’m eternally grateful to Mark Sisson for all of his work in creating The Primal Blueprint, Primal is now my life and I would never consider going back to how I used to eat over 4 years ago.

Because I’ve dropped such a huge amount of weight and kept it off for several years...I’ve stopped looking for other answers, yes I still have a few kilos I’d like to lose but I know that I can do it following primal, I just need to dial it back in again and stop having the indulgences that have crept back in.

I will never be on the constant search for the next ‘diet’, it’s such a freeing feeling!
One of the biggest things I’ve noticed is that I don’t buy health magazines anymore, and I don’t skip to the ‘nutrition’ part of any of the other trashy magazines like I once did.

Check out the covers of just a handful of some of my old magazines...

‘Our new miracle diet'
‘Little health tweaks BIG RESULTS!'
'Bikini Body Now!'
‘Drop 10 lbs in a week!’
‘Get toned arms fast’

The one thing these all have in common is big promises!

I’m guilty of buying these magazines and thinking that this ‘diet’ will be different and will work.  They never did and it wasn’t until I found Primal that I ‘got it’, I understand how my body works and I don’t need to be trying different diets anymore.

Diets don’t always fail, people fail.  Harsh but true.  What you need to find is something that you can stick with and make those changes for life.  Losing weight shouldn’t be about deprivation, I’ve never felt deprived or ravenously hungry while losing weight.  Sure I’d love to go and have a pizza and still lose weight but that just simply isn’t going to ever happen. Until you can understand this you’ll probably be stuck on the mouse wheel.

I don’t need to buy any of these magazines for the health tips because I have found what works for me, so why would I need to try anything else?

“10 superfoods you can try today!” – No thanks I’m Primal.

I know how to lose body fat, get fit and be healthy, I have the answers and I know exactly how to dial it in.  The question is...”How badly to you want it?

  1. What you have said is so true. :) It's been only 6mths of changing to what I call "My Freedom Plan" and it feels so good knowing that I will never "diet" again. I am free from all the advertising, free of counting calories or anything else, free from dieting. I have found what works for me and I am happier and healthier for it. Your blog is an inspiration and along with others I know this works :) It's not just about weightloss, it's about health.:)

  2. Well said, I have been participating in a series of challenges but in reality it's not really a challenge for me.

  4. I was just thinking this the other day when I was thinking of my success with clean eating.
I love buying Weight Watchers mag as I love the recipes and of course change them to suit me.
On the front cover it says: "Eat Cake Lose weight" Hmmm sure if you just adopted that theory then I highly doubt it. I think my magazine buying days are over too. So much free information and recipes at hand on the net now. I don't need any miracle cure as I am doing well the way I am going. It is good to finally be off the dieting cycle!
Congrats on your success. I love reading your blog! You look fabulous and definitely inspire! xx

    1. Thanks Wendi I'm glad you enjoy my blog :) It's amazing at how the mags can draw you in, I guess if you are using them on the basis as just a bit of inspiration and aren't clinging to the "new diet" with hope that everything will change there's nothing wrong with it. There is soo much free info out there now which is fantastic and helps us all to make better choices. Well done for breaking the dieting cycle :)

  5. Having been a convert to the clean eating/primal/paleo lifestyle, I appreciate what you are saying; however, I take with the line that "people fail." Every diet I was on in the past was a blow to my ego. I would see others having success and no matter how closely I followed what I was told to do, I wouldn't. It took me a long time to understand that it was NOT me but the diet that was not right. I no longer feel like I failed in the past, I just did not understand the right way to eat for me. Now I am still not at an ideal weight and I am working at it but I am energetic and healthy...so I know this lifestyle is working for me.

    1. I agree that most diet's fail, I also believe than a lot of people still fail even on something like Primal or Paleo. You need to want to change and sometimes it doesn't matter what diet you are on a lot of people aren't ready to have such a big change. However I personally know for me and many others like yourself that I would never have succeeded with the typical diet recommendations and it took Primal/Paleo to help change my mindset and los the weight. I'm so glad it's working for you and you are feeling energetic and healthy :)

  6. Hey, have been trying to follow this way of living for a while now but i sort of feel stuck - in your opinion - are nuts a good or bad thing to keep in my diet.

    1. Hi there, in my opinion nuts should be an indulgence and keep to moderation, it's really easy to overeat nuts and therefore it's a lot of calories that your body may not need. Try to stick to the real food first and have nuts as a treat :)
